This morning we decided to try out the hotel pool. I figured it would be a good idea to go early in the morning (it opens at 9:00) before it got to the peak heat of the day. This isn’t cool by any means, but it was 33 at 8:30, so I thought we’d better get moving.
The pool is spacious and quiet. This is not a party pool. I am not a party pool person, so was happy to find this out. The interesting thing is that there is no shade… for free. There are some lounge chairs out in the blazing sun that are free… but no umbrellas available for those ones. We were aware of this ahead of time and were prepared. I had looked at the pool website before we left and saw that you could get a double daybed (with soft cushion) and an umbrella for $40 US from 9 - 11:30. So that was my plan. You can book online ahead of time… but don’t do it. When we arrived, she offered us the same daybed and umbrella for $30 for the whole day. I imagine the prices vary by the busy-ness of the day… and today was not busy. We both felt this well worth it to have a shady place to read in between hanging out in the pool. We had lunch at the pool, which was very basic, but did the trick, and enjoyed a diet pepsi that cost $9.00 US! You can’t bring in outside drinks, so don’t really have a choice. A bonus surprise was that when you rent the daybed with umbrella they bring you a bucket full of ice that has 6 small (300 mL) water bottles in it. You don’t even want to know the alcoholic drink prices… crazy!

Really enjoying my $9 Pepsi! |
After we had our fill of the pool Steve decided to try out an inexpensive poker tournament to get back into the poker games. We’ll just leave it there and say, we aren’t rich… yet. You’ve got to have a growth mindset you guys!
After this, we headed out for another walk.. This time we went the other direction towards the Venetian and Wynn. I always enjoy this walk through the malls which they like to call “esplanades and promenades” so I can window shop in all the designer stores. My favourites are of course the shoes. I was disappointed that Barney’s wasn’t in the Venetian anymore, and Manolo Blahnik wasn’t at the Wynn anymore. These used to be my two favourite stores to look at shoes.
On our walk back we decided to have dinner in the fake “St. Mark’s Square”. Coincidentally, we happened to choose the same restaurant where we ate last time we were in Las Vegas when there was a big earthquake. We both remembered the plates bouncing around on the table and jumping up to stand under the big stone arches. Being underneath 20 storeys of hotel is not where I wanted to be during an earthquake. Anyway, this time, no earthquake! The food was quite good and not expensive by Las Vegas standards. We enjoyed a nice caprese salad and pizza while we admired the fake St. Mark’s Square and did some entertaining people watching.

Did I mention how good the bread was?! |
In case you are wondering what St. Mark's Square in the Venetian, Las Vegas looks like... Steve made you a short video.
Side note: Of course the real Venice is better... but this one is pretty good!
So ends another lazy and scorching hot day in Las Vegas!
