After our disjointed sleep on our first night in London we didn’t really get moving until around noon. We headed out for lunch at one of the restaurants we noticed last night called “All Bar One”. This ended up being a much better choice than our restaurant last night. The food was delicious and Steve was particularly happy because his tea arrived with a little shooter glass of smarties.
After lunch we headed out to buy our show tickets. I planned to buy tickets for 1 or 2 nights (we had already purchased one set of tickets from home)… but couldn’t control myself and ended up for tickets for each night. 😀 The deciding factor was “How often do you get to see world class musicals? Not very often!” We bought our tickets from a little kiosk in Covent Garden and easily found all three shows I wanted at a pretty good price.
Steve and I disagree about where we like to sit for shows… he likes to be close and expensive and I’m willing to sit at the back for cheaper tickets. We compromised and I got the cheapest tickets for one show (only 20 pounds!) and the more expensive but cheapish tickets for the rest of the shows (about 50 pounds!) I think this is very reasonable for this type of entertainment. So tonight we will be seeing The Great Gatsby (musical)! In London!! For 20 pounds each!!! I might be a little excited!!! 🤩
This afternoon we had to take care of our laundry. We found a laundromat about a 20 minute walk from our hotel and took care of that business.
Here are some photos from our walk this afternoon.

After dropping off our laundry and hanging it all over our room because the dryer didn't quite dry it, we took another little walk around and then headed back to our room for a one hour nap. Only ONE HOUR we promised! We did stick to our promise and are hoping to get on a regular sleep schedule soon.
After our nap we headed back to Covent Garden to the cake place I have been thinking about since I spied it through the windows last night. It was unbelievably busy and delicious! It is expensive, but as Steve likes to say “We’re worth it!”
We had some lovely iced teas and Steve had the carrot cake (delicious) and I had the MOST AMAZING CHEESECAKE EVER! Yes capital letters are required to emphasize how delicious and smooth this cheesecake was.
Somehow it was now time to head over to the London Coliseum for our show (time is flying by quickly!) This theatre opened in 1904 and is one of the largest theatres in London seating over 2300 people! It was beautiful and the acoustics were amazing. Steve wandered around and took some photos while we waited for the show to start and I had an interesting conversation with a lady sitting next to us.
The show was amazing. Definitely one of my favourite musicals! The singing was spectacular, the costuming beautiful and the story was very compelling. We both agreed it was a 10/10 for us. I would highly recommend it!
Afterwards we went for another walk and surprise, surprise ended up at the ice cream shop!
What a wonderful first full day in London!
