Arriving in Bruges

Las Vegas: Going Deep in the Deep Stack

 Friday July 11, 2025

I don’t have much to report today.

In the morning… you guessed it… we went to the pool. Since it’s Friday the price of the chairs/umbrella for the whole day was $40. Still cheaper than I saw online, and worth every penny to have a place to get out of the blazing sun! Yes… it is still HOT!

After the pool, Steve entered the WSOP Deepstack. This is a poker tournament he has played in before (and cashed in before). So I laid around the hotel room and waited for updates from the tournament. I got lots of photos of chip stacks that looked like this:

Starting stack!

And this...

Winning some chips!

He also sent photos of the information board that looked like this:

These  ones were pretty informative! I like seeing how close he was to being in the money and what the payouts were.

If you were ever wondering what it looks like when you play poker in a poker room in Las Vegas, here is a sneaky photo I took of Steve at the table while I was watching him play.

You can tell by his purple jacket that they have the aircon at full blast in here!

He did pretty well, and got to the point where he wasn’t allowed to be on his phone anymore (last three tables). So I went down to watch how things were going. Keep in mind we are about 10 hours into play by now so it is approaching midnight. I was so tired I could barely see!

What I did see in the end though was Steve coming in 15th out of 511 players. Pretty good I think! He more than tripled his buy-in… but still not enough to buy those shoes we saw at the Wynn the other day. Surprise! This time the shoes are for Steve! Just a few more days to win enough money to get those beautiful shoes!

After the tournament, Steve and I were both a little hungry (at 1 AM! I don’t think I’ve eaten at that time in about 30 years!) so we headed down to the 24 hour food court and had some pizza.

One last stop to take a selfie in front of the Fabulous Las Vegas sign (You don’t even have to go out to the real sign anymore! They are everywhere!) and we headed off to sleep.
