Our Last Day in London

Boarding the Norwegian Prima in Reykjavik

July 27, 2023

We have been very excited about this cruise. Our last cruise was the one to the Baltic in 2019 (that we absolutely loved) so we were excited about this itinerary. It was a bonus that it happens to be on the newest Norwegian cruise ship, the Prima. We had read and watched so many scathing reviews about this boat… but we didn’t let that affect our excitement. Our feeling is if you’re lucky enough to go on a cruise you should be thankful. You will find no complaining here!

We boarded the boat quickly and with no problems at about 10:15 AM. Of course the rooms weren’t ready yet, so we found some lovely places to sit out in the sunshine. Today was the sunniest day we have seen yet in Iceland and I even managed to get a sunburn on my nose. Oops!

We had our first lunch in the “Indulge Food Hall”. It’s an interesting concept. There are a bunch of different types of restaurants (Latin, Texas BBQ, Noodles, etc) that are, in concept, like food trucks. You sit at a table and have a tablet with all the items you can order from the different places. You just pick what you want from the different places and they just bring them to your table. It was terrific… we tried a bunch of different things and they were all very tasty. This is included in your free food on the ship.

When they announced the rooms were ready we headed to our room on the 10th floor. It is quite lovely. It feels more spacious then other balcony cabins we have had, and we eventually figured out that it is because they got rid of the coffee table in front of the couch they usually have in staterooms. This makes it feel a lot more open!

The balcony chairs are also a big step up from the usual and are very comfortable.

The other great thing was the shower. MUCH bigger than your traditional cruise ship bathroom. You could actually fit two people in (if you want!) and it has a transparent glass door which makes it feel more spacious. We are definitely impressed with the room.

We spent the rest of the day unpacking, napping, eating, watching the ship sail away from Reykjavik out on our balcony, exploring the ship… and you guessed it…more eating! 😁

Here we are enjoying our mudslides on our balcony as we sail away from Reykjavik:

And look at that view!

We were supposed to have our first stop in Isafjordur, Iceland tomorrow… but they had to cancel it because the local port authority has not completed the dredging needed to get our ship in. Apparently it was supposed to be finished last year… and they are still working on it. A little disappointing, but not much you can do about that. I’m sure we’ll enjoy a bonus sea day on the ship!
