Day 11 of 59
Tuesday July 10, 2018
This morning we left Las Vegas to fly to Verona. Our first flight to Frankfurt was delayed slightly, but was relatively uneventful.
Day 12 of 59
Wednesday July 11, 2018
Due to the time change and the 11 hour flight, when we arrived in Frankfurt it was already a day later! We moved quickly through the Frankfurt airport, using our wily ways of running when we saw a new passport line opening up. I know it seems very UnCanadian... but it is required in the Frankfurt airport if you want to make your connection. After passport control, you need to go through security scanning again, which takes a while. Luckily our gate was not too far and we arrived with just enough time to go to the washroom and then we were boarding!
After all that rushing we sat on the tarmac in the plane for about 45 minutes because (according to the pilot) they were "taking too long loading the baggage". Hmmmmmm.
Eventually our plane left and we arrived in Verona... late. Conveniently the lady picking us up was watching the flight board (even though they changed our flight number... weird right?) so wasn't waiting too long. Then we waited for our baggage... and waited... and waited. We finally admitted it wasn't coming 😦 Steve went and talked to the baggage people while I went out and told our driver why we were taking so long.
At this point we are REALLY tired and not necessarily coherent. Anyway, the nice lady got us to our apartment in a VERY comfy car and our host met us and told us all of the important things about Verona. I felt like I was paying attention at the time, but literally remember very little that he said.
We then took a much needed nap. It was about 3:30 in the afternoon... and we were definitely not going to make it until bed time!
After our nap we took a walk to get our first glimpse of Verona. It is a beautiful small city. We are staying in the historical centre, which is close to where all the interesting things are. The architecture is beautiful!
At the end of our walk we headed to the grocery store and stocked up on some supplies. We then headed home for a little dinner in our apartment. While we ate we watched the Croatia vs. England soccer/football game. (Sorry British fans 😦 )
