Our Last Day in London

Our Return to Gozo

We visited Gozo (an island off the main island of Malta, but still part of the country of Malta) last year for three weeks and fell in love with it. We wanted to return this year, to see if we still loved it as much as we thought (and also to visit friends Suzy and Michael, of course!)

Our trip started out well with a surprise upgrade to Business Class on the Vancouver to Frankfurt leg. We both kept checking our boarding passes and expecting to get kicked out of our seats... but no one ever kicked us out! I suspect our upgrade was due to Steve sweet talking the lady on the phone who changed our flights... but I guess we'll never know. Needless to say we enjoyed every minute of it!

Our flight to Frankfurt was terrific, and then we had a short wait before our connection in Malta. I was quickly reminded at passport control, that you can't be polite in lines in Europe unless you just want to continue to stand at the back while everyone pushes in front of you!

Our flight to Malta was considerably "squishier" as we were back in economy class... but I suppose we should get used to it, because that's where we usually sit 😀

When we arrived in Malta we were expecting our driver to pick us up and take us to the ferry... he didn't, however, show up! At this point we were going on 24 hours without sleep, and I just wanted to get to Gozo. We waited half an hour, and then took a cab. Our ride on the Gozo side picked us up and delivered us to our cute little apartment right in St. George's Square.

Check out our amazing balcony!

Our host, Ted, was quite lovely and showed us around the apartment and provided us with some staples (bread, cheese, fruit, beer and wine). This was lovely because we didn't have to worry about not having food right away. As soon as Ted left we both promptly fell asleep for a few hours. We didn't want to sleep long, because we wanted to try to get on Maltese time as soon as we could.

We woke up in time for dinner and headed out to a restaurant in Independence Square that had a nice outside terrace. The table we chose was right by a window, looking down a cute lane-way.

We enjoyed a dinner of the Gozitan traditional dish... rabbit stew. It was suprisingly delicious!

I was going to talk about our whole week in this post... but alas... I am WAY too wordy, so will break it up into a few posts. My goal is to stop slacking... and start writing! More posts coming soon (I hope!)
