Our Last Day in London

Sifnos, Greece

This is where I'm going to throw in all the random thoughts we had about Sifnos! It was a pretty lazy six days we spent here. I feel like I should make an excuse for not really doing anything, but I don't have one... we just like lazing around!

You've probably already seen the post about the Seven Seas "day experience". That was definitely the highlight of Sifnos! This is the post that tells you everything else that we experienced on the beautiful island of Sifnos.

We chose Sifnos only because it was on the same ferry route as Milos, and I definitely wanted to visit Milos. My research showed that most people who go to Milos also visit Sifnos and Serifos.

I'm glad we ended up in Sifnos as it is a gorgeous, relaxing island.

We arrived on one of the fast ferries called the "Speedrunner IV". As you approach Sifnos (which is only about an hour from Milos) you head down to the car deck to pick up your baggage. Then you stand on the car deck and wait for it to dock. This is what you'll see as you approach.

Yep, as the ramp is moving down (and the ferry is approaching the dock) the ferry guys are standing out on the ramp ready to throw the ropes. The unloading and loading happens very quickly. As soon as the ramp is down people and cars all walk off in a big mix! It seems to work, and nobody got hurt 😀

As we exited the ferry, we saw a car waiting for us sent from our hotel.

This is where I will expound the virtues of our hotel 😀 They drove us to and from the port at no extra cost! They included a lovely little breakfast with some hot and cold items each morning. The room was comfy and each room was individually decorated. It even had a safe in your room (which is surprisingly not common in the hotels we have stayed in!). Each room had a furnished balcony that you could sit out on and enjoy the view. They did our laundry and folded it for FREE! I was flabbergasted at that one! All this for 80 Euros a night. The best part was that we had a pool at our hotel. This is not common in our price range 😀 As a matter of fact, all summer I think only two of the places we are staying out of 16 in total, has a pool! This was a terrific place to hang out and read, or cool off in the water!

Sifnos has some great little restaurants centred around the bay. You can't miss them as they are right on the main street on the water side. Some of them had comfy furniture where you could lounge and enjoy a drink.

We also enjoyed trying out some of the restaurants. Especially this one where you could have a bowl of olives 😀

Many of the restaurants had sun loungers and umbrellas in front of them. You didn't need to pay a fee to sit in the chairs (we've always paid everywhere else!) you just had to order something... even just a drink was enough. The beach is quite lovely... you can walk out quite far because it is shallow. Here is a shot looking back at the shore from the water.

There are plenty of stray cats in Greece, and you can be sure that one (or five) will join you while you are eating. Clearly, they knew we were suckers and would feed them 😀

This cat was particularly persistent!

One of the things I really enjoyed about Sifnos was the relaxed pace of the island. It felt a bit like going back in time, you could see a lot more of the traditional Greece. People were very friendly, and things moved slowly. I particularly liked this photo. This man was just sitting out on his chair, chatting to people he knew as they went by.

There was more to explore on Sifnos, but we didn't do it this time. We just moved into relaxed mode... and stayed there. You know what I say, always leave a reason to come back to a place you really love 😀
