Our Last Day in London

A Few More Beaches on Milos

Just some random thoughts from our last few days in Milos.

We visited two beaches on the other side of the island. The general rule is "Whichever side the wind is blowing in on, go to the other side of the island." Makes sense right? Our side was calm the first few days, so the Beach With No Name, and Sarakinikos were good choices.

This is the view from our balcony in the morning on a calm day.

Then the wind came up on our side, so we headed over to the other side of the island. The first day we tried Paleochori Beach... which was described to us as the "not boring" beach by the girl who sold us our ferry tickets 😀

You could rent two chairs under an umbrella for 5 Euros at this beach or choose your own spot to put your towel down in the sand. There were also a few tavernas to choose from for drinks or food. Here we are enjoying the beach.

This beach was nice, but as you can see from Steve's photo, a little bit slopey! I swear to you we are wearing 30 spf sunscreen each day... I'm a bit worried we are going to look quite leathery by the end of the summer!

The next day was also windy on our side of the island so we headed over to Provatas Beach (the so called boring beach). We both liked this one better. It was bigger, flatter, and the water was shallow for quite some time. This one is probably best for kids... perhaps that is why it is more boring?!

After some beach time, we enjoyed a little dinner at the taverna at the beach.

And now for the random thoughts section of the blog...

Greek is a difficult language. We have managed to learn to say two words.... good morning and thank you 😀 Don't ask me to spell them, the Greek alphabet is confusing to me! As you are driving sometimes you see signs like this...

This is not terribly helpful if you don't know Greek, so I recommend knowing where you should be going before you leave 😀

We also came across this sign fairly often... usually it is just the exclamation mark without words. We took it to mean "pay attention" as any number of things could be coming up... sharp curve, narrow road, congested area, animals... and I'm not sure what else! I hope people are paying attention ALL the time when they are driving, but I guess this is just pay "extra" attention 😀

We found it to be very helpful to have "wheels" on this island as there are a lot of places to visit.

This is just a shot showing the cool things you can do if you have wheels... just kidding... this is a shot to show my mom my new Greek sandals 😉

If you don't have wheels there is a bus, that we saw a few times. We also saw people sitting on the side of the highway by a sign with a bus on it, so I'm assuming it was fairly reliable. You could also take a taxi (if you have a phone). We saw this sign in all the weirdest places... in the middle of nowhere... I'm not sure how you let the taxi know which sign to pick you up at!

We also loved having wheels because you saw so many beautiful places as you were just driving along. Like this...

... or this! A lot of the churches are atop a hill. In the heat of the summer you need to be really committed to make the trek up!

One more view shot!

We loved Milos, and would return again. The problem is there are so many Greek islands to try out it is hard to balance revisiting the ones you love and seeing new ones!

Next we are off to Sifnos.
