Our Last Day in London

What Can You do on the Queen Mary?

This morning we woke up a little later than usual after the birthday revelry and dancing last night. Steve being the wonderful person that he is, went down to the International Cafe and picked up some pastries for our breakfast (these are included in your cruise fare!) and brought them back so we could enjoy breakfast in bed. We also enjoyed some fresh fruit because the other thing Princess did that I quite like, is that they offer you a bowl of fresh fruit in your room. You just need to tell them what you want from the choices available. This was a very nice added touch that I haven’t had on any other cruise line.

This morning we are docked in Long Beach, in Los Angeles. I didn’t really research the ports very well so we had no idea what we were going to do, especially because we didn’t have Internet access. Well you could buy Internet time... but it was super slow and 79 cents a minute. This is not very cost effective due to my research style of reading 592 possible opinions on what to do.

We decided just to walk off the boat and see what was available. Where we were docked was at the location where the Queen Mary is now being used as a hotel/museum. With our Princess cards they let us tour around for free, so we decided we’d go in and have a look. If you were paying to go in it would be $29 per person. I wouldn’t have bothered for that price… but for free… sure! There were some interesting historical things because it was a classic cruise liner. We walked around, looked at stuff, 'played' a bit, then we headed back to the ship for some lunch.

The Queen Mary

For our personal entertainment we have included a list of ways people may have amused themselves on the Queen Mary when it was sailing across the ocean in the 1930's.

1. You could look out the window and admire the view.

2. You could admire passing ocean liners from the sun deck.

Note: You wouldn't see ships like that one in the background in the 1930's :)

3. You could look way up at the Crow's Nest and imagine the poor souls who had to be up there in stormy seas. Important: Do NOT attempt to go up there unless you want to get in trouble!

4. You could make a phone call home if you were missing your family. (Really? Who here believes you could make a phone call from the mid-Atlantic in the 1930's?) Alternatively you could just look cute peeking out of the phone booth!

5. You could work out using the available fitness equipment. Please note that when the handsome man is working out there are always admiring strangers 😁

6. After your work out you can sunbathe (and rest) on the super comfy lounging area!

7. Later after you've rested you can help out with the shooting of enemies.

8. You knew it was coming... finally you can play Titanic... Look at me... I'm the King of the World (oh wait, isn't that Steve?)

It looked like we could have taken a taxi into town to look around, but neither of us really felt like it, so we decided to laze around on the ship again… we are becoming quite accomplished at this!

We lay out on the deck and watched a movie on the big screen, then hung out in the hot tub… you know… regular lazy vacation stuff!

This evening we had another lovely dinner, where I learned more interesting tidbits about Mrs. M. After dinner, we watched the comedian who was quite funny, and then listened to the Latin guitar player in the lounge. This is definitely not a nightlife crowd… there were 8 whole people in the lounge. We closed the place down (it was barely midnight...) and then headed off to bed.
