Our Last Day in London

Katie and Jordan's Wedding in Koh Samui

December 29, 2010

Senne's Summary: We went to a beautiful wedding on the beach. There were elephants, fire dancers and lantern lift-offs! The reason we chose Koh Samui as one of our destinations was because a friend of Steve's at work was getting married in Koh Samui. This entry will be about Katie and Jordan’s beautiful wedding.

Their wedding was at the Weekender Resort (If you want to get married in Koh Samui we would recommend doing it here. As guests, we really enjoyed the wedding!)

When we arrived we could see a canopy set up on the beach with a bunch of chairs in front of it. They had roped off the area to hopefully prevent people in speedos and bikinis from taking up residence there.

Shortly after we were asked to take our chairs, some strange music came on the speakers (well strange for a wedding). Steve thought it might be a song from Mission Impossible… but we’re not sure. Anyway, we thought maybe the groomsmen were going to come dancing up the aisle (you know how weddings like to do that dance thing now), but instead… Jordan and his best man came down the beach on an elephant! It was very cool!!! Talk about making an entrance.

After this the bridesmaids and Katie came in. She looked incredibly beautiful and had an amazing dress!

Then the wedding ceremony took place. Katie and Jordan basically wrote how they wanted the whole ceremony to go. It was very beautiful and personal. Of course I cried because it was just so beautiful (well I do always cry at weddings… ok, lets face it… I cry at a lot of things).

Under the canopy was a piece of art that Jordan and his mom had designed and made together. There was a tree with a little heart etched in it that said Katie and Jordan. When they return home they will hang the artwork in their house. I thought this was just one of the many things that made their wedding very personal and special.

After the ceremony they had the reception up on the roof of the resort. It had lanterns and fairy lights and was beautifully decorated. The food was delicious! The drinks were tasty. Two parties in one week… how did we get so lucky?!

After dinner and the speeches there was a fire show. It was three Thai guys waving around things that were on fire. It was cool… but a little scary too. At one point one of the boys put gasoline in his mouth so he could spit it out and breathe fire. I just really don’t want people to put gasoline in their mouth for my entertainment!

After this, was my favourite part of the day. Every two people were given a paper lantern to write a wish on for Katie and Jordan. Then we all lit them and watched them float up into the sky. It was incredibly beautiful.

After this was the cake cutting and dance. All in all it was one of the most beautiful weddings we’ve been fortunate enough to attend, and we’re thankful that Katie and Jordan let us share it with them.
