Our Last Day in London

Lazy Days in Naxos - Sept. 8, 2010

 Tuesday September 7, 2010

We had another wonderful day at the beach. There was lots of reading (finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo… read it, it was awesome!), relaxing, swimming, and eating.

Side note: Well except for the part where the last page was missing… seriously!!! I "borrowed" it from the last apartment we stayed in … don't worry I left something in it’s place… and some charming person ripped the last page out before they left it there!!!

Mom and Gary went on a long shopping expedition and apparently made a lot of purchases, which I’ll have to go up and see soon. They found a street that is covered and so short they said Steve will have to watch his head when he walks down the street.

When Steve and I arrived at our favourite lunch place on the beach and ordered the olives, the guy said, “Like always!” I guess they recognize us now!

In the evening when we were eating at a restaurant at the beach (okay it was the same restaurant… we really like it 😀 ) we were watching one of the waiters fishing from the shore. Where else can you work at a restaurant and go fishing at the same time?! The other cool thing about eating at the beach at night is sitting underneath the starry sky. I really enjoyed it!

Other than that, the day was uneventful and deliciously lazy.

This morning we decided to go out for breakfast. There are signs everywhere advertising waffles, so we thought we’d give it a try. We ended up at a place right in front of the waterfront and then had to choose from their selection of 15 choices of waffles (I kid you not). We both decided to get waffles with ice cream (Seriously, would you pass up the chance to legitimize having ice cream for breakfast?) and a variety of other things including chocolate syrup, whipped cream, cherries and almonds.

After our morning sugar rush we wandered around the town a bit. We found a nice necklace (do you call it a necklace when it’s for a boy?) for Steve… and then he discovered a very cool chess set he liked. This brings up the issue we are always faced with when shopping now. “Is this something we want to carry around in our backpack for another 12 months?” Usually the answer is no. (I realize we could mail stuff back, but we’ve already had one bad experience with people stealing stuff we’ve mailed back so we’re leary…) This time though Steve thinks he wants to carry this chess set around. He’s going to sleep on it…

The streets of Naxos!

After our tour around town we headed back down to the beach and did our regular swimming, reading and lazing about. Oh, how I love this place!

After awhile, it seemed to be really hot and we decided to go inside for some shade. The cleaning lady hadn’t been yet and the towels were in the hall outside the door so we decided to stay out of her way. Steve convinced me to walk into town to get gyros instead of going for my daily bowl of olives…

Of course the gyros were delicious… and cheap. Five Euros bought lunch for both of us! We walked through the town again... it’s dead in the middle of the day. Lots of stuff closed and barely any people were around. We did take another look at the chess set… but still didn’t buy it 😀

Next was Siesta time and more general lazing around. Then mom decided if we were in Greece we needed to go to a place named Zorba’s for dinner… so we did. Another nice family run restaurant down on the waterfront. We still didn’t get to throw any dishes in the fireplace which has been a bit of a letdown, but mom compensated by breaking one of her wine glasses on the balcony… I think it was an accident…

We walked through town a bit again and decided to walk back on the beach.

Mom and Gary went off to sleep and Steve and I kept walking on the beach for a bit.

We decided to try one of the girlie drinks at a place on the beach (you would have liked it Pete!). We had some lovely, but VERY strong drinks sitting in lounge chairs looking up at the stars in the sky.

All in all, another perfect day 😀

This is how much Steve loves Naxos!
