Our Last Day in London

Last Days in Greece - Sept. 26, 2010

Naxos

Sunday September 26, 2010

Well we are on our last full day in Naxos. Will be heading to Santorini for a couple of days tomorrow and then fly to Bali. Steve isn't looking forward to the flights (long legs 😉), but it will be worth it. We’re both very excited to see what Bali looks like.

The last few days have been very relaxing and I think I’ve reached one of my goals in life which is "Become a Lady of Leisure". Hey it’s only for 14 months, so I’m going to enjoy every minute of it!

View from our balcony!

We’ve been eating (alternating between our two favourite restaurants), reading, walking, playing in the water, Steve’s tried some windsurfing, and generally just relaxing. It’s been quite excellent. It seems like quite a contrast after Italy where I think we looked at every possible thing there was to look at!

Kamari

We headed back to Kamari on the ferry from Naxos, and were picked up at the ferry terminal by Manos (one of the guys who runs the hotel with his family).

He brings us to his hotel, the Seaside Beach Hotel, which is great. I would highly recommend it if you are staying in Kamari. We had a room with a separate loft bedroom, a big bathroom with a tub big enough (and clean enough) to take a bath in, and a little kitchenette. The hotel has a nice pool, breakfast is included, there is a restaurant, and it’s right on the main strip across from the beach. Keep in mind that this is for 60 Euros per night… I know it’s off-season, but it’s also Santorini. This is definitely a bargain!

This evening we walked to the open-air cinema up on the main road. The walk there was an adventure in the dark (make sure you know where you are going!), but it was worth it.

Tropical trees and plants surround the cinema. It has those sling back beach chairs in the front row and director type chairs for the rest of the seats. There is a giant white screen and tables between the chairs for your drinks. We watched the movie "Holy Water", which ended up being quite funny! We both giggled when the movie stopped in the middle for an intermission. I can’t remember the last time we’ve been at a movie with an intermission. We were hoping for the little cartoon where the hot dog jumps in the bun, but no such luck! We did however enjoy some reasonably sized popcorn (not the North American Jumbo size).

On our last day in Kamari we spent at the beach. It’s the end of September and it’s still warm enough to sit out in the sun and swim in the ocean.

This was a great way to wrap up our time in Greece. This is definitely a country we’ll return to! Next time maybe we'll hit Naxos and a smaller less touristy island. Any suggestions?
