The Autobiography of the Queen - By Emma Tennant. My score 2/5. Read in December 2014. Also takes place in England.

An absolutely fabulous idea for a book, but this one fell flat for me. I wish it could be written again... but better.

There's an Elephant in My Kitchen - By Francoise Malby Anthony and Katja Willemsen. My score 5/5. Read in March 2021.

I LOVED this book. It takes place on a game reserve in South Africa. This is the second memoir about the game reserve, the first was written by her husband. Most of this book, takes place after her husband, who she sets up the game reserve with, passes away. It details the daily struggles she faces to keep the game reserve running, and keep the animals safe. I found this to be a heart-warming glimpse into the life of someone living a life I greatly admire. There was definitely a lot of crying, but the kind that is so worth it!

The Power of One - By Bryce Courtenay. My score 4/5. Read in March 2014.

Spain

Two Steps Forward - By Graeme Simsion. My score 5/5. Read in August 2021.

This book starts in France and finishes in Spain as the characters walk the Camino Trail. I loved this one! I appreciated the two very different viewpoints and their journeys. What I LOVED the most was the feeling of being right there with them on the trail, and the interesting people they met along the way. Now I must find out everything I can about the Camino Trail!

Night Boat to Tangier - By Kevin Barry. My score 4/5. Read in February 2021.

Set mainly in Algeciras ferry terminal, but also other areas in Spain and Ireland. A hauntingly sad book about the tolls of drugs and criminal life. Strong characters which I felt empathy for despite the many bad choices they made.

The Jetsetters - By Amanda Eyre Ward. My score 3/5. Read in May 2020.

Set in Barcelona, Malta, Italy, Greece and France as the characters take a family cruise. You can tick a lot of countries off your list with this one!

Sri Lanka

The Hungry Ghosts - By Shyam Selvadurai. My score 3/5. Read in December 2019. Set in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and also in Canada.

Sudan

What is the What - By Dave Eggers. My score 3/5. Read in May 2008.

Sudan, South

Suriname

Swaziland

Sweden

Anxious People - By Fredrik Backman. My score 5/5. Read in February 2021.

Wow! This is one of the best books I've read in quite some time. I'm having trouble putting into words how much this book spoke to me. That I laughed out loud many times is a testament to the writer's incredible wit, when writing about such deeply troubling subjects. I found that he made me love (yes love!) all of his characters despite their many flaws. Backman has a way of showing us people's character in the ordinary things they do in life... which sounds boring, but instead was breathtakingly beautiful! Highly recommended.

A Man Called Ove - By Fredrik Backman. My score 5/5. Read in April 2016.

Beautifully written. One of my new favourites! Confused by the reviews that says it is hilariously funny... I never found myself laughing... but there was definitely a lot of crying!

The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared
- by Jonas Jonasson. My score 5/5. Read in March 2013.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - By Steig Larsson. My score 5/5. Read in September 2010.

The Red Address Book - By Sofia Lundberg. My score 4/5. Read in December 2020. Set mainly in Stockholm. Also set in England, Paris and New York.

Bear Town - By Fredrik Backman. My score 4/5. Read in January 2019.

Okay, super slow going in the beginning... I almost gave up. I'm glad I didn't. Once we got into the real story it was an intense page-turner. I really enjoyed this one (minus the hockey bits).

Switzerland

Angels and Demons - by Dan Brown. My score 3/5. Read in July 2008. Takes place in Geneva, Rome and Vatican City.

Syria

The Gendarme - By Mark Mustian. My score 4/5. Read in January 2019. Set in Aleppo. Also set in Turkey and the U.S.A.
