The Heaven Shop - By Deborah Ellis. My score 5/5. Read in March 2008. Please note this is a middle grades novel, but still very appropriate and interesting for adults.

Malaysia

The Night Tiger - By Yangsze Choo. My score 5/5. Read in September 2020. Historical fiction set in Malaysia. I loved this one! So carefully planned and thought out. Elements of superstition and historical interest.The characters were interesting and had you rooting for them despite the fact that there were a lot of primary characters to keep track of. The writing was beautiful and created vivid images that stayed with me after I finished reading the book.

The Midwife of Venice - By Roberta Rich. My score 4/5. Read in June 2013. Also set in Venice, Italy.

The Ghosts of Malta - By Joseph Attard. My score 3/5. Read in July 2019. Set all over Malta including Gozo.

American Dirt - by Jeanine Cummins. My score 5/5. Read in November 2020. This one is VERY controversial. I lean on the side that this book is fiction, and gives insight into the emigrant experience.

Hot House Flower and the Nine Plants of Desire - By Margot Berwin. My score 2/5. Read in May 2016. Also set in New York City.

Meet me in Monaco - By Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb. My score 4/5. Read in November 2019. Very enjoyable. A quick read that immerses you in the South of France during the 1950's. I appreciated the ending didn't take the easy way out. If I had one criticism it would be that the cover says "A novel of Grace Kelly's wedding". This book was actually about two completely fictitious characters, and the Grace Kelly bit was just a side story.

The Moroccan Girl - By Charles Cumming. My score 3/5. Read in March 2022. This is probably an excellent spy novel. I'm not particularly interested in spy novels so found it just okay.
